My Approach

My role as a caring dedicated, professional is to facilitate your growth through empowerment, guidance, and education. I treat each client uniquely based on their unique experiences and needs. I will assess your situation and give you my honest opinion of whether I can be of service to you or advice you whether some other professional may be a better fit for you.  We work as a team and feedback is an important part of our work. Implementing change may require that you practice skills between sessions. I monitor your progress and you give me feedback on our sessions so I can better serve you. My goal is to help you rediscover happiness in your life – attain the change or obtain your goal to achieve your greater good.

My practice is guided by but not limited to the following theoretical perspectives of psychology:

Humanistic:  This is an approach based on the belief that people are innately good and have a natural capacity for self growth.  Mental and social problems are deviations from this natural tendency as a result of the person’s life experiences.  Increasing self-awareness and self-acceptance leads to change and growth.

Cognitive-BehavioralThis approach is based on the belief that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, NOT external things like people, situations, or events. As you learn how your thoughts and behavior cause much of your unhappiness, you will learn to identify and practice alternatives that will help you make better choices and improve your relationships.

EMDR: EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a powerful integrative psychotherapy technique that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR uses a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. EMDR therapy has helped relieve millions of people of all ages from many types of psychological stress.
